This years-old hairy portrait of Willy Wonka brings to mind arguments of ‘who did it better?’ Johnny Depp is truly a fantastic actor, but he’ll never really be able to compare to the original: The late, great Mr. Gene Wilder. Wilder’s take on the candy purveyor embodied his lightly menacing quirkiness. In fact, it’s his bold portrayal that made the role for Johnny Depp to step into even possible.
